SWAP

‘Swap’ is an app that encourages students to eat a healthy vegan diet and try it out once a week as part of the challenge.  Swap is based on the campaign #healthylifelessmeat. It is targeted for students aged 18-24 year olds. At the same time it is giving a positive message while reducing the carbon footprint.

Challenge

The app looks at the protein myth. This is a perfect app for someone looking for inspiration. As well as this it gives great alternatives or options that dont require animal products and instead use plant base proteins. Swap is also a fun way of personalising and customising your own food and while at the same time educating yourself all about protein. The design approach was to understand the layers of the myths and use this to create this into a layering effect.

Process

As part of the swap family - overboarding is included on the app, a sign in and sign up page where you can register and become a member.

Part of the app, there is a section called ‘once a week challenge’ where you can challenge yourself to try out the recipes which includes ‘breakfast’, ‘lunch’ and ‘dinner’. As part of the challenge you can track your daily record on your own personalised ‘calendar’. This will take you to a page which allows you to customise your own burger or any type of food. Then from there you can explore the app by finding out more facts about a particular food item on the ‘qr code’ section while you are shopping. Another section in the app is a ‘popular customisation’ which allows you to customise your toppings to say a ‘pizza’ but subtly encourages you to add meatless options too.

SWAP Posters Designs

Challenge

These are posters which include the environmental aspect of eating less meat and how it could have an impact on the rest of the world. I have included three posters that are to do with myths of veganism, for example, ‘Animal Protein is the best source of protein, ‘Milk is the only source of calcium and is crucial for the bones’, Red meat is always bad for your heart’ and lastly another example is ‘If you dont eat meat you wont get enough iron and you’ll become anaemic!’

The purpose of these posters are to make students aware it could have an effect on what you are eating and the environment. The myths posters are there to show what people are saying or what they believe they see when they talk about veganism. It is there to encourage or to inform that you do not need to give up meat all together, but you can make the simple change to ‘swap’ for alternatives.

Challenge

As an extra to the mobile app, Swap will include some recipe cards including cultural and students vegan recipes. The front of the card says ‘Swap your steak for ‘Miso Ramen Noodles with Shitttake Mushrooms’, then on the other side it has a recipe an ‘alternative’ a vegan recipe. As you finish your shopping in the supermarket, they would be placed at the end near the reception area.
